Streamlined Migration Solution for an end-of-life Legacy Infrastructure:
“Everything was maxed out on our old infrastructure, and we were starting to struggle with it,” said Victor Escatel, Systems Analyst at Mountain View Los Altos High School District.

Recognizing the importance of performance and reliability in modern educational environments, MVLA USD & Portola Systems embarked on a migration journey to Nutanix’s Cloud Platform. This strategic decision was driven by the need to streamline operations, enhance scalability, and optimize resource utilization across the district’s diverse campuses.

“Nutanix was the perfect choice with the technology it offered, its redundancy, and also the support they provide,” said Fishtrom. “We use Nutanix for all of our virtual infrastructure, and all of our servers are stored on it.”

The Nutanix Cloud Platform, hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) solution, is designed to provide a unified IT operating environment for both private and public clouds. It integrates compute, storage, virtualization, and networking resources into a single platform, simplifying datacenter management and enabling organizations to build, scale, and manage their cloud environments efficiently.

Delivering seamless educational experiences while mitigating operational complexities with Nutanix’s Cloud-Native Architecture:
“With Nutanix, everything is much faster. We’re able to spec out our servers to maximum capacity—or to whatever we want—without really affecting performance. For example, one of our servers that our administrators use was running fairly slow, since many people had to log into it. Now everyone has noticed great performance speed using that server.”- Escatel.

Overall, the Nutanix Cloud Platform, Nutanix Cloud Manager, and AHV work together to deliver a comprehensive cloud infrastructure solution that enables organizations to build and manage hybrid and multi-cloud environments effectively, while simplifying operations and reducing overhead.

The Product Solution Breakdown:
Nutanix Cloud Manager is a centralized management and orchestration tool that enables administrators to manage and monitor their Nutanix infrastructure across multiple clouds from a single interface. Empowering organizations like MVLA with improved their agility in hybrid and multi-cloud environments.

AHV (Acropolis Hypervisor): Nutanix’s native hypervisor, built into the Nutanix Cloud Platform, provides virtualization capabilities for running virtual machines (VMs) and virtualized applications on Nutanix clusters.

“We have three servers in our data center and three servers in one of our high schools, and a power interruption took the high school offline,” said Fishtrom. “However, because of Nutanix’s software and technology, we were able to replicate the data on our three servers at the data center and no one was affected. Performance stayed basically the same and nothing went offline from our end.”

IT Consulting Partnerships that Elevate Infrastructure:
“Proof that having the right partners makes a difference for the communities we serve. Thanks to the guidance from Portola Systems, Inc., the Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District partnered with Nutanix to upgrade our server infrastructure. The results are amazing.” -Robert Fishtrom Director of Information Technology at Mountain View-Los Altos Union High.
